Concept of the Ecofest

It is said that a “Picture speaks a thousand words” but when it comes to films it can actually translate into an epic. The strength & reach of a motion picture has always defined new benchmarks & more than often managed to make an indeligible mark on the minds of the audience. This phenomenon gains more ground when it comes to issues pertaining to environmental degradation & nature conservation.

Discussions & forums on environmental conservation though critical, have lost their potency & often end-up as drab & clichéd to a great extent. Thus when spreading the message of conservation remains vital, spreading it effectively becomes the cornerstone of this grave issue.

Ecofest is a competition of “Short films & Presentations” based on the theme of environmental awareness and wildlife conservation.

The competition comprises of two categories:

1. Short Films: In this category, participants need to shoot a short-film or a short documentary that would effectively convey the message of environmental conservation. The duration of the film can be a maximum of 20 mins and can be shot on any type of camera and edited on any kind of software.

2. Presentations: In this category, participants need to make an audio-visual presentation – a compilation of photographs or slides, catering to the core theme. The duration of the presentation can be a maximum of 10 mins.

Why short films and presentations only?
Today short films and presentations are some of the most creative media through which one can create awareness about grave issues. In our fast paced lives with limited attention span, talks, long feature films or lectures often fail to click with the audience. What is required is a medium that communicates the thought in the most precise way & retains the attention of the spectators till the end. Thus the most effective way of sending a message is through a short presentation or a short film.

With the success of Ecofest’08, this year, Foliage intends to broaden its scope by inviting professional film makers to utilize this platform to help the cause. The main reason behind this is to make the audience sensitive towards the grave threats of a deteriorating environment and also to create an urge among them to take firm action. Ecofest’09 aims to get some of the best creative minds in the business for spreading the message to the utmost extent.

Ecofest’09 presents a unique opportunity as well as a great challenge that is bound to excite the creative buffs to display their innovative excellence for a green endeavour.
