    Itinerary

    Day 1: Arrival at Helsinki and transfer to hotel
    Arrival and meeting your Adventure Apes guide at Helsinki-Vantaa airport. Transfer to hotel in downtown Helsinki, dinner in Indian restaurant.

    Day 2: Introduction to Finland - Helsinki sightseeing - Visit to Oodi library
    The tour will start with an introduction to Finland for the week so students can feel comfortable in Finland and what is ahead for each day.

    Students will also begin their adventure journal which they will keep during the trip. The journal is their own space to record notes, keep thoughts and complete creative tasks - a great learning tool and memory of their time at the camp.

    Helsinki is the capital of Finland and has a population of 620,982. It’s a laid-back city with great design, architecture and culture. On the tour, we will see the iconic market square and Helsinki cathedral; visit an indoor market and taste some local specialties and visit the world famous Oodi library with stunning architecture and facilities for different learning workshops and activities. Dinner in Indian restaurant and board the night train from Helsinki to Rovaniemi.

    Day 3: Arrival at Roveaniemi - Visit to Santa Claus Village
    Have pack breakfast in train. Post reaching at Roveaniemi, check your gear’s. Gear check ensures everyone has what they need to stay warm, dry and comfortable including clothes, shoes, ski boots, basic adventure  gear, safety gear and personal hygiene items.

    A visit to the Arctic Circle, where it's Christmas all year round is something truly memorable! You will cross over the Arctic Circle to meet Santa Claus and his elves and send postcards to family and friends from the one and only Santa Claus Post Office with the unique Santa Claus stamp. You will have time to explore the Village and visit some souvenir shops followed by lunch.

    Post lunch, visit Ranua wildlife park. It is a perfect place to meet Arctic animals up close and learn about bears, reindeer, moose, wolverine, arctic fox and many other species. Have dinner and transfer to lodge.

    Day 4: Session on survival skills and outdoor cooking - Snowshoeing expedition - Finnish Sauna culture

    Post breakfast, session on survival skills and outdoor cooking. When living year-round in Arctic conditions, it is important to know some core survival skills. We’ll practice some of the most important skills like building a fire in a traditional way without matches and carving our own butter knife. (Okay, that last one isn’t critical to survival, but it is fun!) Using their new fire-making skills, students will work together to learn how to cook a meal over the open fire.

    Post lunch, get ready for snowshoeing expedition - We will set out on a guided snowshoeing adventure off the beaten path. You will be walking in deep snow with the help of special shoes designed to keep you on top while admiring the snow-covered forest.

    In the evening,  get introduced to Finnish Sauna culture. The Sauna is an important part of Finnish culture and Finns are just crazy about it. We will share all our Sauna secrets and then let students experience it for themselves. Yes, bathing suits will be worn so don’t be shy! Have dinner and overnight at lodge.

    Day 5: Husky safari and farm visit - Northern Lights Hunts
    Post breakfast, enjoy Husky safari and farm visit. At the husky farm, students will learn about the daily life of mushers, meet the dogs and take a husky safari through snow-covered forests and lakes.

    Post lunch, meet local reindeer herder and feed the reindeer. Reindeer herding is an important part of life in Northern Finland. During the visit to a reindeer farm, students will meet and feed the reindeer and have the chance to ask the local herder any questions they may have about this animal of the Arctic.

    Post dinner, the real hunt starts for Northern Lights. While only mother nature knows when the Aurora Borealis will dance in the Northern sky, our guides will watch for the best chance to catch a view of this spectacular display. Any evening when the conditions are right.

    Day 6: Introduction to Arctic animals and ecosystems + ice fishing - Make your own Traditional Handicrafts - Farewell
    Post breakfast, introduction to Arctic animals. Finland’s vast forests and pristine lakes provide a habitat for many wild animals from large to small such as moose, reindeer, wolves, lynx, and birds. We will learn about the animals that make up the various ecosystems followed by ice fishing activity. Finland is the land of a thousand lakes (187,888 to be exact) which are home to many different species. We will learn about fish and life in the lakes while also spending some time fishing and enjoying the silence of nature.

    Post lunch, time to make your own traditional Finnish handicrafts. Through this activity, students will learn a bit more about modern Finnish culture and the economy while producing handmade postcards from recycled paper.

    The farewell party is the perfect time to reflect back on all the fun we have had and the things we have learned both individually and as a team. With food, stories and activities, it will be a memorable last evening.

    Day 7: Fly back from Kussamo - Helsinki - Delhi
    Post breakfast, pack your bags followed by reflection session. It is an important part of the learning process so we build it into the camp programme. It builds self-awareness and encourages students to consider what students know, how they learned it, and what they might still need or want to learn. Check in transfer to Kuusamo airport, flight to Helsinki then on to India
